final colors for red panda and golden lion tamarin [Mar. 2nd, 2009|02:20 am]

hey guys! got the red panda and golden lion tamarin all colored up. the otter's taking a bit more time-
for some reason scrapbook images are not working tonight so i'll have to just put up links for now.

for the red panda i had a couple versions-
a- the original
b- tail-less [not sure if it seemed off or mucked the composition]
c- dulled colors [if the brights are now too bright since this has been moved to the earth tones suit]

also the golden lion tamarin [looking at it now i'm tempted to lighten its face]

i went with traditional coloring then brightening up/editing in photoshop. especially since the brown lines don't always scan evenly and colors get lost. hopefully these are more a help than a hindrance! any thoughts, fixins, or ideas are welcome, otherwise, i'll be sending off the final images :]

I added them to the gallery so you could take a peek - http://endangeredark.com/gallery

My only concern is the large areas of flat color - if you want to send the full files (and I have your permission of course!) I could take a whirl at printing and painting them a little just to add in some fluffy fur texture and see how that looks. Let me know what you think!

eek- are the large areas of flat a concern? thats generally what i go for actually :p
i can up the paper texture or give them subtle fur detail and gradation if you like- i have the time today. i'm not keen on having them painted in with something that wasn't transparent only because then you lose that bold outline style and paper texture to an extent. would that be ok?

That would be fine, I just need to get them today or tomorrow so they can be submitted with the rest of the set. :) I think if you add just a bit of gradation/detail they'll be perfect!

ok! i did some noodling- would adding a subtle shading/gradient be sufficient enough? along the lines of this? of would you prefer more detail still?

That looks really nice! I think adding the bit of detail and shading really adds a lot to them! I would maybe push the panda just a bit further - adding some more dark and light highlights/shadows (kind of to the level you did in these: http://louvelex.artspots.com/image/7111/two-otters ) would be perfect but I'll leave the final call to you. :)

okay well...i made sort of a drastic change and did the RP over again. as well as completed the otter! i think you and i had different ideas about what direction to go in with these images so i did another one that was more fitting i hope XD

Aah, those are absolutely spectacular! I love them both. It's up to you on the GLT - I really like him how you've got him now but I'll leave that up to you. If you can send/email along those files I'll get them added in right away. :)

Thank you!

I like what you did with him with the subtle shading/detail - I think if you did something similar with his background it would be perfect. I love your flats as well but I think to keep more in line with the rest of the deck it works better with a little bit more detail to break up the color space, if that makes sense. :)
